The Plant Engineer is responsible for providing technical assistance to the Plant operations in the form of process improvement, cost reduction, safety enhancement, and efficiency.   As well, he/she is responsible for the justification, engineering and installation /startup of all capital projects in conformity with the policies and practices of Hood Packaging Corporation.

Application Instructions:
  1. KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
  • Regular contact with Manufacturing Manager to review projects.
  • Frequent and regular contact with production personnel – Managers, Supervisors, Engineers, to review problems, makes recommendations and schedule downtime.
  • Regular contact with Systems and Accounting personnel.
  • Occasional contact with government regulatory agencies, Occupational Health authorities, Fire Department and Insurance Brokers.
  • Frequent contact with suppliers, contractors and equipment brokers or manufacturers regarding new equipment, quotes, bids and specifications.
  • Regular contact with service contractors to schedule work and review contractor proposals.Some contact with Customers.  

Duties:
  1. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBLITIES

Within the limits of applicable policies, procedures and established plans, he/she has authority to take action and make decisions.  The assignment of work or delegation or responsibility does not relinquish responsibility for results.  Performance will be measured by the extent to which the responsibilities have been fulfilled.

 

Functional Responsibilities

  • Identify, develop, and manage process improvement projects specifically aimed at improving operational efficiencies (waste, productivity, costs).  This includes the ongoing development and training of required methods and procedures. 
  • Trouble Shoot daily production and process problems, communicate with Manufacturing Manager, Production Superintendent, Supervisors and Operators regarding run problems, investigate root causes and recommend and implement corrective actions.
  • Work in conjunction with manufacturing and maintenance personnel to ensure consistent operation of equipment to prescribed conditions, once developed. Identify any/all of the following:  set-up and run parameters; maintenance intervals; and/or material specifications.  
  • Develop supporting set up, run and change over documentation and facilitate all training.
  • Write, perform, analyze, and report on validations to support process standardization.
  • Design equipment modifications and make recommendations to resolve work method problems.
  • Develop project justifications, ROI analysis and proper project/capital requests consistent with company policy.   
  • Source equipment suppliers and brokers for available machinery.
  • Prepare drawings, plans and designs for approval.
  • Plan, organise and co-ordinate execution of all project work.
  • Liaise with government and regulatory bodies, and ensure all new installations or modifications meet the applicable regulations.
  • Provide input to capital expense budget forecasts.
  • Control capital project costs within budgeted limits.
  • Take lead on management and implementation of safety initiatives.     Always operate with safety considerations as paramount.
  • Assist Manufacturing in preparing standard operating conditions with the appropriate input from the machine operators, supervisors and technical personnel.
  • Assists Sales and Packaging Engineer in the development of customer specifications.  

 

 

 

Managerial Responsibilities

  • Coordinates task & directs work to be done but is not responsible for the direct supervision of employees.

Location: Sibley, IA, US

Experience: 3-5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.

Education: Four year degree in Engineering – ME, IE, ChE or manufacturing engineer
