The Plant Accountant is responsible for the day-to-day accounting and finance functions of the Site, as well as other administrative functions as required.
V. QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- University degree
- Professional accounting designation or working towards a designation
- 5 yrs manufacturing experience in a manufacturing environment
- 2 yrs in a supervisory role
Skills:
· Computer literate
· Solid understanding of business fundamentals
· Strong analytical skills
· Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
· Good interpersonal skills
· Detail oriented
I. PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES
The following key areas identify the major responsibilities to the overall purpose of the position.
Functional Responsibilities
· Prepare preliminary Site financial statements and related reporting for presentation to Regional Controller
· Financial analysis and preparation of various analytical reports
· Support the updating of the fixed asset database. Prepare documentations relating to additions, disposals and depreciation and reconciliation with General Ledger
· Review Standard Costs and ensure cost system is accurate and current, including the cumulative order close procedure
· Assist in the maintenance and integrity of the Standard Cost system as assigned
· Analyze actual costs to standard costs and make the appropriate recommendations
· Manage the job close procedure within the required time frame in order to ensure accurate and timely information
· Prepare and post Journal Entries
· Preparation of all weekly and monthly accruals for Site
· Analysis of monthly variances as reported in the financial statements
· Administer and control A/R and credit/collection for the Site
· Support internal/external/government audits
· Monthly balance sheet reconciliation
· Review all Accounts Payable entries and confirm batches
· Preparation of various government reports as required
· Oversee the accounting and reconciliation of the Site payroll, including year-end
· Assist in preparing required year-end schedules
· Other duties as assigned
· Day-to-day over-site of Site Accounting function and personnel
III. KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
· Regular contact with the Regional Controller regarding accounting procedures and costing issues
· Regular contact with the Sales Manager regarding credit and collection and aged finished goods inventory
· Regular contact with Head Office Accounting regarding accounting procedures and issues
· Maintain contact with professional societies and keep current on latest best practices
IV. AUTHORITY OF POSITION
The Plant Accountant has authority commensurate with his/her assigned responsibilities. He/she is authorized to take any reasonable action necessary to fulfill his/her assigned responsibilities, so long as such action is in accordance with the established polices and instructions and is consistent with sound business judgement
