  1. SCOPE OF POSITION

Coordinates all raw materials purchases to ensure uninterrupted production as well as controlled inventories.  Coordinates the overall purchasing process to maximize cost savings which includes negotiating with vendors for the purchase of all materials, supplies, equipment and services.

  1. QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor degree in a business-related field preferred and one (1) to three (3) years’ previous experience with purchasing/materials procurement and expediting or
  • High School Diploma or GED and five (5) to seven (7) years’ experience in purchasing/materials procurement and expediting

Skills

  • Strong personal computer skills, including knowledge of excel & spreadsheets
  • Strong math skills
  • Working knowledge of computer software related to the purchasing & accounts payables functions
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including both verbal and written
  • Good telephone communication skills
  • Proven ability to work independently
  • Knowledge of basic accounting and manufacturing procedures
  • Basic knowledge of purchasing procedures, pricing and market trends

Duties:
  1. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBLITIES

Within the limits of applicable policies, procedures and established plans, he/she has authority to take action and make decisions.  The assignment of work or delegation or responsibility does not relinquish responsibility for results.  Performance will be measured by the extent to which the responsibilities have been fulfilled.

 

Functional Responsibilities

  • Orders and expedites raw materials purchasing
  • Monitors and controls raw materials inventories
  • Forecasts materials usage
  • Coordinates warehouse consignment levels with Vendor
  • Coordinates new material needs of Technical staff/plant staff with suppliers
  • Evaluates and recommends suppliers to Department Managers
  • Communicates regularly with suppliers regarding market supply and pricing
  • Supports and assists with purchasing and receiving functions throughout the operation, including downloading data into Access for Scheduling
  • Completes monthly raw materials reports and accruals to Accounting
  • Monitors and reports material supply and price trends to management as needed
  • Implements and coordinates purchasing procedures to support corporate strategies
  • Performs miscellaneous duties for projects and events as requested.

  1. KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
  • Scheduler, daily, regarding materials and shipping schedules, ordering raw materials and maintaining inventory levels
  • Suppliers, daily, for purchasing materials
  • General Manager, as needed, for ordering special/trial raw materials
  • Shipping Clerk, as needed, regarding inventory levels
  • Supervisors and Office Staff, as needed, to discuss best method of procurement for various items
  • Region General Manager, as needed, to discuss material market conditions and price trends
  • Plant Services Manager, daily, direction and guidance

 

 

 

  1. FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Regular use of computers, telephones and other types of office equipment
  • Must organize complex tasks and meet deadlines

 

 

  1. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Significant time is spent the office and the remaining time is spent on the Facility floor.  Hazards are those normally associated with a Plant position and include: noise levels above 85 decibels, warm building temperature during mid-summer months
  • Personal and product safety requirements for the plant include:     hearing protection, safety glasses, safety shoes and hairnets
  • Occasional travel is required
