KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS |

1. Good basic math, reading, writing and verbal communication skills. |
||||||
|
2. Be able to stand/walk 75% of the time, up to four hours at a time. |
||||||
|
3. Be able to lift/carry 5-15 lbs. 90% of the time and up to 50 lbs. occasionally. |
||||||
|
4. Good vision and hand/eye coordination. |
||||||
|
5. Teamwork skills: work closely within the department and with other departments. |
||||||
|
6. Cooperation and flexibility: be willing to work in other areas of the plant when the need arises. |

IMPACT ON OPERATION |

Production efficiencies are met when there is little or no down time on a machine. The roll Shafter can affect this by planning ahead, monitoring the raw materials and being prepared to make quick, and careful roll changes. Verifying that the proper raw materials are being used for the job is also critical to reducing costs of poor quality. |

PURPOSE OF POSITION |
|
|
|
|||
|
To shaft and place rolls of paper or poly onto roll stands in preparation for production. |
||||||
|
MAJOR TASKS |
|
|
|
|||
|
1. Verify proper paper and poly for a given job. |
||||||
|
2. Prepare the roll to be shafted. |
||||||
|
3. Shaft and lift the roll onto the roll stand. |
||||||
|
4. Assist the operator with set-up as needed |
||||||
|
5. Complete work cards to accurately describe work that was performed. |
||||||
|
6. Keep the work area clean; sweep, pick up, etc. |
||||||
|
BASIC OPERATION PROCEDURE |
||||||
|
1. Read the job order, check paper, poly and adhesive to see that they are right for the job |
||||||
|
2. Remove the outer cover, remove and save label or records, slice off the tape |
||||||
|
3. Shaft the roll, place the collars in the proper position and secure. |
||||||
|
4. Use the hoist to lift and place the roll onto the roll stand. |
||||||
|
5. Splice the roll onto the paper or poly with tape |
||||||
|
6. Monitor the rolls so that they do not run out before re-splicing a new roll |
