General Responsibility Statement:

Responsible for supervising the employees in the Maintenance Department. Assists with mobile crane inspections, FORT, building and plant improvements, and our continuous improvement projects. Use proper safety precautions when handling hazardous chemicals, electrical equipment, or when working in elevated places. Must work within all safety guidelines.

Education, Reasoning ability, and or Experience:
A four-year degree (B.A. or B.S.) and two years manufacturing experience is preferred; or technical degree and five years experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  

Note: May forgo formal education if individual demonstrates acceptable skill and knowledge with over 8 years of experience in a capital goods manufacturing environment.

The ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to apply problem-solving techniques.  Capacity to constructively deal with problems involving several variables.

Accepts, supports and encourages productive change.   Involves others, as appropriate, in the decision making process.  Practices and encourages intelligent risk taking.

Must have knowledge and understanding of the following mathematical expressions and have the ability to apply them to the general responsibilities of the positions.  Math requirements, but not limited to: logarithms, exponents, and simple statistics.  Including the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.

Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write complex correspondence.  Capacity to effectively present information in one-on-one, and group situations.

Physical Demands:
Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Required to sit and use computer, handle paper work, also to stand and use hands and fingers to grasp and hold objects, tools and/or controls, likewise reach with arms and hands.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts.  The employee is also, at times, exposed to fumes and or airborne particulate.

Other Skills and Abilities:

Possesses basic computer and keyboarding skills. Familiar with all Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises employees in the Maintenance department.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.   Responsibilities include training and development of employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; making salary recommendations; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Duties:

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  1. Assists with completion of continuous improvement projects.
  2. Maintains the preventive maintenance schedule and maintenance work order entry.
  3. Assists, supervises, and recommends building and plant improvements.
  4. Supervises employees in the Maintenance Department.   Provides day-to-day direction for Maintenance employees and has ultimate responsibility for ensuring maintenance requests are completed on a timely basis.
  5. Assists the Quality Engineer and Manufacturing Engineer with projects.  
  6. Follows all organizational and departmental procedures, safety policies and directives as outlined in, but not limited to the Maintainer Employee Handbook and Maintainer Quality Manual.
  7. Participates in all continuous improvement programs by offering suggestions and showing initiative in areas within direct control.
  8. Performs other tasks as requested by management.
